Meet Your Elected Officials Event

One way we increase awareness about the Surprise Regional Chamber of Commerce and our businesses agenda is to host a reception or “meet and greet.”  These “meet and greets” provide an excellent opportunity the Chamber to develop or strengthen relationships with local officials, State, and federal legislators, or candidates and to interact with them informally.

The event is held in December when legislators are out of legislative session. It is important to note that a “meet and greet” often leads to more formal discussions about a particular issue. Discussions initiated at reception are followed up with an office visit.

The event is attended by Chamber board members, the public affairs committee, and Chairman Circle members. The event provides participants with an opportunity to develop relationships with individuals who may be in positions to make decisions affecting their companies, employees, and industry. Developing relationships early with an elected official through a meet and greet is a real help in influencing future public policy decisions. Since a strong personal relationship with policymakers is essential to successful grassroots advocacy, our meet and greet is an effective tool in building long-term relationships. Also, a meet and greet can help participants evaluate candidates for elective office.

The event is an opportunity for elected officials or candidates to deliver their political messages and policy positions, as well as increase their visibility. Please note that attending a meet and greet does not obligate anyone to support the candidate/elected official in any way.
